Diggin' Ho-o-oles, diggin'. August 17, 2010

.

Day three.

By the time we got there (It was only the fun, watching the tractors part) much of the excavation was done.

Turns out the three opinions Dad got were all wrong. Happily. The ground was not washing away under the house. The builders had used bad fill in front of the house and it had been sinking over the years. There was a two foot gap between the cement of the front porch and the earch below. It had been staying up by sheer glue factor to the side of the house.

While it was a little frustrating to have gone to a lot of trouble for this, it was still very good news that this was as bad as it was going to get and it could be fixed much more easily.

So, like all little girls who grew up operating tractors, both farm and crawlers, I was happy to pull up a chair, grab a drink, and watch someone else do the digging. He was pretty good!

They were a friendly father and son team.

Smashing up the bed of the brick walkway we'd torn up on Sunday.

Then we headed off for auditions to The King and I. Michael is just going to work backstage on this one.

But our friends all got parts. Anna, TupTim, a priest, dancers in Little House of Uncle Tom.

This will be fun!

  1. The first play i ever went to was The King and I. I loved it!

Oh, so glad the washing out wasn't as bad as feared, that must be good news even though finding out made a mess!

  2. Yup. And it gave Dad an excuse to redo the front walk. He is making it handicapped accessible, thinking of the future for mom.
