Ballet Rehearsals

.

The crunch is on. We've got rehearsals all week.

Here are a few photos I took from Saturday's run through.

This is Cinderella.

And here is Prince Charming!

Michael has three parts; the tailor for the bratty step-sisters, a dancer at the Palace Ball, and here he is as a "boy who throws rocks at the bluebird".

And a scene of grand ballet, featuring the fairies.

He's having a great time. It's quite a thing to be involved in a production like this, but great memories of friends, a shared project, learning and being pushed to do things you have never done before. He is quite tired, though.

So is this mom!

  1. I used to learn ballet as a child and have many fond memories of ballet rehearsals and productions :-)

Have fun Michael! I'm sure you are one very proud mama when you see Michael dancing!

  3. Handsome young men, they all.

And the scene from the grand ballet is beautiful too.

I just read your previous post and seen and listened to the video. Thanks for sharing Faith.

  4. Julze,

And photos, I hope. The age of digital photography has made it so easy to record moments, but when we were children, not quite so much. I don't remember my folks carrying cameras around.

My daughter did ballet for a short time, in a school about the size of this one, but the productions they did were nothing like this. I have been amazed at how much they pull off for this small town we are in, and it's been a lot of fun.

Michael doesn't ballet dance, and all his parts are walk-ons as peripheral characters. He does do ballroom dance scenes, as some of that is court dancing and waltzing.

But a couple of the guys in there do gymnastics, and it's been fun to see how their mom, who owns the school, incorporates the gymnastics into the comedy of this production (wrestling shoes away from step-sisters) and the drama of last years production of Exodus (fight scenes). Since Michael does gymnastics, that will be something he can offer later on as well.

  5. Nancy,

It really is, isn't it! They do an incredible job.

Not having boys in her ballet school (not too many interested) she relies on lots of help, like Michael and his friends, and also on outside talent to play the male leads.

The man playing the Prince is from New York. She called someone up there and asked them to find the youngest dancer they had that could come. The girl playing Cinderella is only 14. Ryan is a wonderful, kind and sweet young man. A real pleasure.

  6. Grandpa,

    You're welcome.

Those three boys had to have stage makeup on last night, and I was the one to apply it.

They are so funny. As soon as their parts are over they are running to the bathrooms to scrub it off. They came back, faces raw and red. I had forgotten to bring makeup remover and this kind did not come off very easily with water. But they sure got it off! LOL

  7. This looks so amazing. Faith thank you so much. I got your package and your instructions. Lets hope I can do better with this than with the tea! Good idea with the heating pad because my home is cool. Can you tell me again when to plant them?

  8. Plant them when they develop roots, maybe a quarter of an inch long. Put some plastic wrap over them then, tent them for a little while, so the tops don't dehydrate. Since I mailed yours off, several of mine dried out and I lost them.

    Always learning!
