Trying out a photo post.

.

I had done one the other day, but the tinypic.com widget cut off the photos too much, so that one is only a draft now.

I'm going to see if these pics of our blueberry picking day will come out all right.

Saturday, Michael and I met with several friends at a local blueberry farm.

Much cheaper than the other places, one of them 18 dollars a gallon, we got these luscious berries for 5 dollars a gallon.

We left early so we could get in a lot of picking before the group tired out. In years past, most folks peter out after about an hour. So we arrived at 8 and picked for 1/2 hour before a few showed up, and the rest came at 9 am.

Some came bearing doughnuts. I got the low down later that Michael managed to finagle the ONLY Bavarian cream in the lot!

We found a sweet spot against the hill with shade, a light breeze, and big juicy berries,

and we proceeded to be silly and enjoy ourselves until 11 am.

We picked about 4 gallons for ourselves, in about 3 hours. The law of diminishing returns applies here, we discovered. Leah needed help finishing her last 3/4 gallon, so we all jumped in and got it done in about 5 or 10 minutes.

And here are most of the wonderful faces from that morning.

We spent a wonderful couple of hours with some of the gang, eating fresh blueberry muffins (Thank you, Miss Angie) before heading out to stop by my parent's house and give them some of the berries. We were repaid with a nice time of visiting, AND BBQ burgers. Not a bad deal!

It's good to be out with dear friends and family, and it's good to be home, sweet home!

  2. MMM! Another perfect day! Those berries are gorgeous! I didn't even realize blueberries grew well around here. Whoops! They must've been delicious. I would have eaten so many and put so few in the bucket. :)

  3. I'm so glad the pics are working! I can't believe you already have more pics than I do on Tinypic!

Beth is leaving after we get back from the beach... I don't think we could be cruel and send her off like that without the trip!;-D

Spindles are quite magical! My hands cramp up a little when I use them, but I am still a beginner to the spinning world. I also cheat and predraft my roving. *looks down in shame*

You spoke the beautiful "W" word! I'm really excited about fall and winter... I think it's because of all of the festivities. I just love how autumn feels! I can already smell the fallen leaves *sneezes*. Tee hee, but really, I think the leaves are going to be beautiful this year on account of all of the rain! Can't wait to see what all we will learn! Love ya & hope to see you soon!

  4. Picking our own blueberries is wonderful! This year, with the bum knees, I have had to buy mine at the grocers.
Glad to see you have photos again!

  5. Faith, great pictures! Looks like you guys had a great time! It is always great to see young people enjoying spending time with adults. I cherish the time my 21 year old son spends with me, that is COOL!! :-)

  6. What a fun time, and a fun day. Are you going to freeze your berries or make them into jam? Maybe, even, a pie.

  7. Hello Faith,
just found your link through FarmgirlCyn, what a lovely day you had picking berries. That is a lot of hot work though and I am sure there was lots of thirsty people when the picking was over. The bushes are huge...wish we had a place to pick here.
Your photos are really terrific...have a wonderful day.

  8. SBF,

Oh, a perfect time for a song I've been singing since Saturday....

Jean Claude: Now Madame Blueberry was a sad little berry
She lived by herself in a house in a tree.
Her butlers would show up each morning at nine
They'd open the door to hear Madame whine.

    Madame: I'm so blue-hoo-hoo,
    Blue-hoo-hoo
    Blue-hoo-hoo hoo!
I'm so blue I don't know what to do!

These dishes are faded, their edges are chipped!
This rose is on backward and this one is flipped!
These spoons are too tiny, these forks are no good!
These knives have gone dull and don't slice like they should!

My neighbors have nice things, I've seen them myself.
In fact, I keep pictures up here on my shelf!
Look at this new flatware of Monsieur LaGoon's
And Monsieur DesPlanes has twelve Franklin mint spoons!
And Phillip Van Pea went and bought a new sink,
Why, he even has a disposal, I think!
And look at this crock pot of Madame Lacrosse's,
And ceramic jars where she keeps all her sauces!
    Nice sauces...

Just look at this sofa of Edward and Tammy's,
And lovely armoire where they keep all their jammies!
I really can't stand it, I think I may die!
Now where was that hanky? I'm going to cry!
    Too late! Bahaahaa!

    I'm so blue-hoo-hoo,
    Blue-hoo-hoo
    Blue-hoo-hoo hoo!
I'm so blue I don't know what to do!

Yes, we sang Veggie Tales tunes as we picked. LOL

  9. Jo,

They are so good fresh off the bush. As far as I know, they'll grow almost anywhere except the SW.

He offered a job to anyone who wanted it. Two dollars an hour picking, plus all the blueberries you could eat. LOL

  10. Leah,

I've got to take them off and try uploading them very small. Maybe they will come out better in the blog?

I bet the leaves are going to be gorgeous! If we have a good cold snap especially. We've got to make several sight-seeing trips when it comes. :)

  11. Cyn,

Sure hope that knee improves soon. I've got some bum knees myself and they are no fun when they keep me from doing stuff.

  13. Linda,

I should try a blueberry jam... And some pie filling.

I think what I ought to do is get a variety of fruits out of my freezer and make a couple of quarts of each type of pie filling all at the same time. Seems it might be more efficient that way, without having too many pies for me to eat by myself. LOL

  14. Anonymous,

Thank you! You're right. I didn't have much in the way of doughnuts, but I'd have loved some fruity iced tea.

We went early, but by 11 when we were done, it was plenty warm.

  16. I know you said that the pics cut off, but my problem is that they become all blurry if I try to make them larger, so I figured if people want to look at them then they can click on the picture. Hope you had a wonderful day... and beautiful stormy evening! :-D
